Behind every wellness brand, there is a story. For SightSage, that story begins with compassion, clinical experience, ancient wisdom, and a deep belief that people deserve hope, even when they are told there are no answers left.

SightSage was founded by Dr. Weidong Yu, a world-renowned Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and co-founded by Kathy Zhang, a certified acupuncturist known for sharing practical health tips rooted in the ancient wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Together, they have spent decades helping people better understand their bodies, restore balance, and support their health naturally.

But before SightSage became a nutraceutical wellness brand, there was Wellspring Clinic.

A Clinic Built on Hope

In 1997, Dr. Yu founded Wellspring Clinic in Vancouver, Canada. Since then, the clinic has become known around the world for its work with people living with Retinitis Pigmentosa, also known as RP.

RP is a rare, progressive eye condition that can slowly reduce vision over time. For many patients, the diagnosis can feel life-changing and frightening. Many are told that there is no cure and that they should prepare for gradual vision loss.

Dr. Yu and Wellspring Clinic wanted to offer something different: hope, compassion, and a whole-body approach to care.

Through a thoughtful integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and modern vision assessment, Wellspring Clinic developed a comprehensive protocol to support people living with RP. The goal has always been to help preserve functional vision, strengthen the body’s internal systems, and support patients in maintaining independence for as long as possible.

Over the past 27 years, patients from 46 countries have travelled to Wellspring Clinic seeking support. Many came because they could not find answers elsewhere. What they found was not only treatment, but care that looked at them as whole people, not just as a diagnosis.

Dr. Yu’s Journey: From China to Canada

Dr. Weidong Yu’s path began with years of rigorous training in both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine from Shandong College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1983, where he studied both systems of medicine for five years.

In 1991, he earned a Master’s degree in Public Health from the Free University of Brussels in Belgium. After returning to China, Dr. Yu practiced both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western-style medicine at Binzhou Medical College Hospital. He later worked as an Assistant Research Fellow at the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing, one of China’s leading research institutes for Chinese medicine.

His career eventually took him to Belgium, the United States, and Canada, where he continued practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine. He is a Licensed Acupuncturist in California and a Registered Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine in British Columbia.

With more than 43 years of experience, from 1983 to 2026, Dr. Yu has authored over 30 publications in Chinese and English medical literature, lectured internationally, and was invited by the World Health Organization in 2015 to serve as an international expert on acupuncture clinical practice.

But beyond the degrees, publications, and recognition, Dr. Yu’s purpose has always remained simple:

Sight for Humanity.

The Patient Who Changed Everything

Dr. Yu’s introduction to Retinitis Pigmentosa came unexpectedly.

A patient named Adriana visited him for help with weight loss. But during the appointment, Dr. Yu noticed something more urgent. Adriana was living with Retinitis Pigmentosa.

Before meeting Dr. Yu, she had been told that she would eventually go blind and should begin preparing by learning braille. Modern medicine had offered limited options, and she was left facing the emotional weight of a progressive diagnosis.

Dr. Yu saw the situation differently.

He believed that Traditional Chinese Medicine could offer another perspective. In TCM, the body is understood as an interconnected system. When one part of the body is struggling, the goal is not only to focus on the symptom, but to strengthen the internal systems that support overall function.

Dr. Yu approached Adriana’s RP as a sign that the body’s internal balance needed support. He created a treatment plan that included acupuncture, herbal formulations, and nutritional support.

Over time, Adriana’s vision began to stabilize. Her night vision improved. She was able to walk more steadily without assistance. But perhaps the most meaningful transformation was not only physical.

It was emotional.

She regained confidence, dignity, and a stronger sense of independence.

For Dr. Yu, Adriana’s journey became a turning point. It deepened his mission to help people living with RP and other retinal eye disorders. It also became part of the foundation for the work that would eventually inspire SightSage.

A Whole-Body Approach to Vision Health

At Wellspring Clinic, Dr. Yu and Kathy Zhang have supported thousands of patients with vision concerns, including Retinitis Pigmentosa, macular degeneration, myopia, presbyopia, dry eye disease, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, astigmatism, amblyopia, and viral optic neuritis.

Their work is grounded in the belief that vision health is connected to the health of the whole body.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the eyes are not viewed in isolation. They are connected to circulation, internal energy, nourishment, stress, liver health, kidney essence, and overall balance. This perspective shaped the way Dr. Yu and Kathy approached patient care at Wellspring Clinic.

Instead of focusing only on the eyes, they worked to support the body from within.

This philosophy later became central to SightSage.

The Role of Kathy Zhang

Kathy Zhang, co-founder of SightSage, is a certified acupuncturist with more than 30 years of experience in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Alongside Dr. Yu, Kathy has helped run Wellspring Clinic in Vancouver, where they support patients with vision concerns and other health challenges. Their work has extended beyond eye health to include people dealing with concerns such as hearing loss, insomnia, weight issues, skin problems, joint pain, infertility, and other complex conditions.

Kathy is also known for making Traditional Chinese Medicine more accessible to everyday people. Through social media, she shares simple, practical health and beauty tips inspired by ancient TCM wisdom.

Her approach is warm, educational, and empowering. She believes that people should understand their bodies better and have access to natural ways to care for themselves.

While Dr. Yu brings decades of clinical research, diagnosis, and treatment experience, Kathy brings education, communication, and everyday wellness guidance. Together, they created SightSage as a way to bring the wisdom they practiced in the clinic into people’s daily lives.

Why SightSage Was Created

After decades of clinical experience, Dr. Yu and Kathy saw a clear need.

People wanted natural, trustworthy wellness products rooted in real expertise. They wanted support for modern health concerns like eye strain, weight management, hair loss, stress, and fatigue. They also wanted products that were easy to use and made with high-quality natural ingredients.

SightSage was created to answer that need.

The brand brings together Traditional Chinese Medicine, modern wellness needs, and nutritional support. Each product is designed to help support the body from within using natural herbal ingredients and whole-food-based formulations.

SightSage is not just a supplement company. It is the next chapter in Dr. Yu and Kathy’s lifelong mission to help people feel supported, informed, and hopeful about their health.

From Clinic Care to Daily Wellness

At Wellspring Clinic, Dr. Yu and Kathy worked directly with patients who often came to them after years of searching for answers. Through SightSage, they wanted to make their knowledge available to more people beyond the clinic walls.

That vision led to products focused on some of today’s most common wellness concerns.

For eye health, SightSage created products like SightC and Blueberry Gummies to support people dealing with dry eyes, blurry vision, eye fatigue, and long hours of screen exposure.

For hair health, products like AdaptogenX and Hair Pro were developed to support the body from the inside out, especially for people experiencing stress-related shedding, hormonal changes, scalp concerns, or thinning hair.

For metabolic wellness, the Superfood Wellness Blend was created with 29 whole foods and herbs to support healthy weight management, cravings, bloating, blood sugar balance, and daily nourishment.

Every product reflects the same belief that shaped Wellspring Clinic: the body works as a connected system, and true wellness begins by supporting balance from within.

A Mission Rooted in Compassion

What makes the SightSage story special is not only the science, training, or years of experience behind the brand. It is the compassion behind the work.

Dr. Yu and Kathy have spent their lives listening to people who were often frustrated, afraid, or unsure of what to do next. Many of their patients came to them after being told that their condition could not improve or that they simply had to accept what was happening.

At Wellspring Clinic, those patients found care that gave them time, attention, and hope.

That same spirit is at the heart of SightSage.

The brand was created for people who want to take a more natural and proactive approach to their health. It is for people who believe that wellness is not only about managing symptoms, but about nourishing the body, supporting balance, and building better daily habits.

The Meaning Behind Sight for Humanity

For Dr. Yu, the phrase “Sight for Humanity” is more than a mission statement. It represents a lifelong commitment to helping people protect one of their most precious senses.

Sight is connected to independence, confidence, movement, connection, and quality of life. When people begin to lose vision, they often feel like they are losing more than their eyesight. They may feel like they are losing freedom, security, and control over their future.

Dr. Yu’s work with RP patients shaped his understanding of how deeply vision affects the human experience. That understanding inspired him to continue researching, treating, educating, and creating solutions that support eye health and whole-body wellness.

Through SightSage, that mission now reaches beyond the clinic and into everyday homes.

Carrying Ancient Wisdom Into the Modern World

Traditional Chinese Medicine has existed for thousands of years, but Dr. Yu and Kathy believe its wisdom is still deeply relevant today.

Modern life brings new challenges: constant screen exposure, high stress, poor sleep, processed foods, hormonal imbalance, and burnout. But the body’s need for balance has not changed.

SightSage was built to bridge this gap.

It brings ancient principles into modern wellness routines in a way that feels practical, accessible, and easy to understand. Whether someone is taking a superfood blend in the morning, using herbal support for hair health, or adding eye-supporting nutrients to their daily routine, the goal is the same: to help the body feel more supported from within.

The Legacy of Dr. Yu and Kathy Zhang

The story of SightSage is the story of two practitioners who dedicated their lives to helping people feel seen, cared for, and supported.

Dr. Weidong Yu brought together the precision of Western medical training, the depth of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and decades of clinical experience in vision health. Kathy Zhang brought compassion, education, and a passion for making TCM wisdom accessible to everyday people.

Together, they built Wellspring Clinic as a place of hope for patients from around the world. Then, through SightSage, they created a wellness brand that carries the same values into daily life.

Their work is rooted in a simple but powerful belief:

The body has the ability to heal, restore, and rebalance when it is supported in the right way.

Final Thoughts

SightSage was not created from trends. It was created from decades of patient care, clinical research, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and a deep understanding of the body as a connected system.

From Wellspring Clinic to SightSage, Dr. Yu and Kathy Zhang have remained committed to helping people protect their health naturally. Their journey began with patients searching for hope, and it continues today through products designed to support vision, hair, metabolism, and whole-body wellness.

At the heart of SightSage is a promise: to bring ancient wisdom, modern care, and natural wellness together for people who want to feel better, live better, and see life more clearly.
